Emerging Drug Trends & Emerging Drugs of Abuse

This interactive workshop will discuss the latest developments and information regarding opioid use and abuse, an overview of marijuana, alcohol, cocaine and other designer drugs that have been emerging over the past few years. Workshop participants will be introduced to the physiology of these drugs and how they can possibly impact, mimic and exacerbate men- tal health disorders such as anxiety and depressive disorders. Epidemiologic trends in drug abuse in both youth and adults will be discussed. Patterns of use, abilities for urine detection, and other legal aspects regarding these emerging drugs will be discussed. Workshop partici- pants will gain knowledge in the area of emerging trends relevant to working in the addiction treatment system of care, prevention field, schools, and other social service providers. This workshop offers 6 CEUs for the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).
